Kashmir & Neelum Valley Tours
Pakistan's softest valley landscape, the Neelum River, Keran, Sharda, Kel and the hilltop village of Arang Kel, paced for couples, families and slow weekends.
Azad Kashmir is the most accessible green-valley experience in Pakistan. The 240 km Neelum Valley runs north-east from Muzaffarabad along the Neelum River up to Taobat near the Line of Control, with riverside hotels, wooden villages and dense pine forest on both flanks.
Compared with the Karakoram or Hindukush, Kashmir is lower (mostly 1,500–2,500m), warmer in summer and easier in transport. It is the trip most people choose when they want a relaxing river-and-forest break rather than a hard mountain itinerary.
Kashmir Travel Overview
There are two main Pakistani Kashmir routes: the Neelum Valley (north-east from Muzaffarabad) and the Jhelum Valley (east toward the Pir Panjal). Most travelers focus on Neelum because it offers more variety in a single road, river, forest, waterfalls, hilltop village.
Trips are usually 4 to 7 nights. Roads are paved up to Sharda and reasonable up to Kel; beyond Kel the road becomes narrower and weather-sensitive. Connectivity, electricity and hotel quality drop as you go deeper into the valley, which is part of the charm.
Muzaffarabad and Entry Routes
Muzaffarabad is the capital of Azad Kashmir and the gateway city. Most travelers spend a half-day here, Red Fort (Ramkot vantage point), the confluence of the Neelum and Jhelum rivers, and Pir Chinassi viewpoint for those who want a higher overlook. From Muzaffarabad it is a steady 4–6 hour drive up the Neelum Valley to Keran, depending on road works and weather.
Neelum Valley Highlights
Keran
Riverside village directly facing Keran on the Indian side, calm walks along the Neelum.
Sharda
Historic site with the ruins of Sharda Peeth (ancient learning center) and a confluence of two rivers.
Kel
Base village for Arang Kel, last full-service town before the upper valley.
Arang Kel
Hilltop hamlet 1,500m above Kel, reached by chairlift or steep hike, postcard pine-forest views.
Ratti Gali Lake (advanced)
Alpine lake accessible by jeep + trek from Dowarian, summer only, glacial water.
Taobat
Wakhi-speaking village near the LoC, wooden houses, smallest crowds, end of the road for most travelers.
