Sindh & Karachi Tours, Coast, City & Indus Heritage
Karachi's Arabian-sea skyline, the necropolis of Makli, Sufi Sehwan, and Mohenjo-Daro on the Indus, Pakistan's southern province and biggest city, on one route.
Sindh is Pakistan's southern province and the birthplace of the Indus Valley Civilization. Karachi anchors it, a 20-million-person port city with a coastline, an old town, modern food scene and Pakistan's main international airport, but the real cultural depth sits inland: Thatta, Makli, Bhambore, Mohenjo-Daro, Sehwan Sharif and the Sukkur barrage.
Travelers usually fly into Karachi and combine 2–3 days of city time with a longer 5–7 day Indus heritage loop, or pair Karachi with a Balochistan coastal road trip. This page covers the city, the coast, and the Sindh heritage routes that are realistic to do with a local team.
Sindh and Karachi Travel Overview
Karachi is Pakistan's only city of true global scale. Sindh outside Karachi is flat, hot, and dense with archaeological sites, most of which require pre-arranged transport, a knowledgeable driver, and ideally a guide who can read the heritage.
Sindh is a winter destination. November to March is the practical window. Outside that, heat and humidity make sightseeing outside Karachi exhausting.
Karachi City Experiences
Mazar-e-Quaid
White marble mausoleum of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, central, well-kept, half-day stop.
Mohatta Palace
1920s pink-stone palace now a museum, Indo-Saracenic architecture and rotating exhibitions.
Frere Hall
Colonial Gothic-Revival hall with the Sadequain ceiling murals and a calm public garden.
Empress Market & Saddar
1889 Victorian-Gothic market with spice and fabric lanes, best with a local guide.
Quaid-e-Azam House Museum
Jinnah's actual residence, small, well-preserved, often missed by visitors.
Karachi food trails
Burns Road, Boat Basin, Burnes Road biryani houses, Bun Kebab, Chai cafés, Karachi's strongest cultural export.
Coastal Views and Food Culture
Karachi's coast runs roughly 100 km, Clifton Beach, Sea View, French Beach, and Mubarak Village fishing harbour at the western edge. Sunset at Sea View is a Karachi ritual; the western coves are private-cabin beach country.
The city's food story is as important as its architecture. Sindhi biryani, Bombay-era Parsi cafés, Pashtun karahi joints, seafood at Boat Basin and the third-wave coffee scene in Clifton, together they make Karachi the most diverse food city in Pakistan.
Thatta and Makli Heritage
Shah Jahan Mosque (Thatta)
1647 mosque with 93 domes and exceptional Persian-tiled acoustics.
Makli Necropolis (UNESCO)
One of the world's largest necropolises, 8 sq km of carved tombs spanning the 14th–18th centuries.
Keenjhar Lake
Large freshwater lake on the Thatta route, winter waterbird habitat.
Bhambore Archaeology
Ancient port-city ruins linked to the Sassanid period and the Sindbad-era trade story.
Chaukundi Tombs
Carved sandstone tombs en route to Thatta, older than Makli, less visited.
Mohenjo-Daro (UNESCO)
5,000-year-old Indus Valley city, multi-day extension from Karachi via Larkana.
