Difficulty Grading Chart

Climbing Difficulty Grading Chart

Understand the difference between easy mountain routes, trekking peaks, glacier climbs, serious expeditions, and extreme high-altitude objectives in Pakistan.

This climbing difficulty grading chart helps travelers understand the technical level of Chaqon Global Tours' mountaineering, trekking peak, rock climbing, and expedition programs. It is designed to make trip selection easier by explaining the difference between beginner-friendly mountain routes and serious high-altitude expeditions.

Technical difficulty is not only about height. A route can become harder because of snow, ice, glacier travel, steep terrain, fixed ropes, exposure, weather, remoteness, altitude, or rescue complexity. For this reason, every grade should be treated as a planning guide, not a guarantee.

Chaqon Global Tours can help you choose a realistic route based on your experience, fitness, available days, budget, equipment, and safety expectations.

Important

Difficulty Is Not Fixed

Mountain difficulty can change because of weather, snow condition, route damage, landslides, river crossings, altitude sickness, team speed, and local access. A route graded Technical Difficulty 3 may feel harder after fresh snow or poor weather. For this reason, Chaqon Global Tours always recommends flexible planning and safety-first decisions.

Compare

Technical Grade vs Fitness Grade

Technical grade explains the route's climbing and terrain challenge. Fitness grade explains the physical effort required. A trip can be low technical difficulty but still physically demanding because of long walking days, altitude, rough roads, or camping conditions.

Example: Hunza Valley may be low technical difficulty but still requires basic walking comfort. A 6,000m peak may require both higher technical grade and strong fitness. An 8,000m expedition requires both extreme technical difficulty and expedition-level fitness.
