Desert & Cholistan Tours in Pakistan

Guided 2 to 5 day desert trips to Derawar Fort, Cholistan dunes, Bahawalpur palaces and Thar, with 4x4 vehicles, desert camps and local Cholistani drivers.

A Cholistan desert tour is a 2 to 5 day 4x4 journey through the sand belt south of Bahawalpur, built around Derawar Fort, desert camping, camel herder settlements and the palaces of Bahawalpur city. The best travel window is November to February.

Chaqon Global Tours runs these trips with local Cholistani drivers, permitted 4x4 vehicles and tented desert camps. We also plan Thar Desert tours in Sindh and the Cholistan Jeep Rally in February.

Frequently Asked

Questions travelers ask

When is the best time for a Cholistan desert tour?
November to February. Days are pleasant and nights are cold, so bring warm layers for desert camping. Summer temperatures pass 45 C and we do not run desert trips then.
Do desert tours need a 4x4 vehicle?
Yes. Tracks beyond Derawar Fort are soft sand, so we use 4x4 jeeps with local Cholistani drivers who know the safe lines between dunes.
Can we camp overnight in the Cholistan desert?
Yes. We arrange tented desert camps with meals, bedding and a campfire near Derawar Fort, booked in advance.
How do we reach Bahawalpur?
By direct flight to Bahawalpur, by train from Lahore or Karachi, or by road, 5 hours from Lahore and 1.5 hours from Multan. We arrange airport and station pickups.
Is the Cholistan Jeep Rally worth planning around?
Yes, if you enjoy motorsport and crowds. It runs each February at Derawar and hotels in Bahawalpur sell out, so book 6 to 8 weeks ahead.
Are desert tours suitable for families?
Yes, in winter. We keep drives short, use hotels in Bahawalpur instead of camping for young children, and carry extra water and shade.
